Observational Ink Study
(05.10.22)
Ink
My favorite aspect about ink is that it is a medium that calls an artist to be mindful and intentional. In the moment of applying the values, an artist has to trust their skills and the process to reflect the subject accurately. I appreciate how I can let go of how the piece 'should' look once it is finished and enjoy the journey of its creation.
Mood of Color
(04.25.22)
Digital Media (Procreate)
The initial process began with researching the definitions of each word, brainstorming potential expressions, and selecting an appropriate color scheme. A monochromatic scale of blues with less saturation provides a muted, sorrowful palette. As opposed to Melancholy, the colors of Rude were chosen specifically to clash similar to how rudeness can be provocative. Warm colors, especially red, engage passionate emotions such as anger.
Blissful + Anxiety Self-Portrait
(04.23.22)
Charcoal
For this self-portrait, each student randomly drew two adjectives and had to find a way to combine them using the subject of a self-portrait. Since my words were Blissful and Anxiety, I decided to show the visual of a more tranquil exterior with the emergence of a distorted, worry. Dealing with anxiety is something I have come to accept about myself, which has aided my ability to be more centered on joy.
Silent Film Ink Study
(03.20.22)
Ink
An ink study from a still of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). This piece was my first time exploring ink as a medium. I appreciated how similar ink is to watercolor by the water aiding the formation of textures.
Artist Mash-up
(03.07.22)
Colored Chalk Pastels and Colored Pencils
For the mash-up of the figure and the space, I choose Venus from William-Adolphe Bouguereau's The Birth of Venus (1879) and the background art from Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle (2004). I love these two pieces for their whims and the opportunity to strengthen my skills. This piece was one of my first times using colored chalk pastels.
Dress + Living
(02.15.22)
Digital Media (Adobe Photoshop) and Pencil
This piece illustrates the celebration of all the simple joys in my life. I started this piece with a hand-drawn sketch; I uploaded the drawing to Adobe Photoshop to add color.
